Bird to be honored as ‘Officer of the Month’

The “Officer of the Month” luncheon will feature Detective Sharlotte Bird.

The lunch is noon Wednesday, Nov. 3 at The Paddlers Restaurant. King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel.

Bird’s investigation of two adults and one juvenile suspected of committing numerous crimes within Hawaii County, resulted in the referral of 49 criminal cases, “27 of which were felonies” to the county Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.

The criminal cases involved 22 victims and occurred in several districts across the county.

Eight motor vehicles and four motorcycles having a value of more than $50,000 were recovered. Personal property stolen from a visitor to the Big Island during a robbery was also recovered and returned to the victim at her mainland address.

Bird’s experience as an investigator combined with her own high standards of self motivation and professionalism have resulted in the apprehension of criminal offenders and the continued safety of our communities.

Gayle Hunt, director of public relations of the West Hawaii Community Health Center, will be speaker at the luncheon.

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee is an organization that encourages community involvement in aiding and supporting the Kona Police Department in their efforts to prevent crime, deter potential criminals and enforce the law.

Membership is open to organizations or individuals wishing to further the purposes of the Kona Crime Prevention Committee and is effective upon payment of dues.

The public is invited to attend the Officer of the Month luncheons the first Wednesday of each month. Cost of the luncheon is $15, all inclusive at the Paddlers Restaurant. Parking in the King Kamehameha lot is an additional $2.
