Annual art exhibition at DMAC (Oct. 30)

MEDIA RELEASE

The Donkey Mill Art Center annual Adult Student Art Exhibition runs through Oct. 30. This year’s theme is “Pupils’ Perspectives.”

A closing reception is scheduled 5-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30.

In the spirit of the season the Donkey Mill will be hosting a Dead of the Dead celebration to add to the evening affair. Art is Life…Life is Art can best be captured in cultural celebrations that blend ancient traditions, spirituality, rituals, art, music, food, and modern influences.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is celebrated throughout Latin communities worldwide on Nov. 1-2 to honor passed love ones in vibrant exuberance.

An altar will be the focal point of the evening where participants can add personal touches to remember family and friends. Photos, candy skulls, offerings, flowers (marigolds), candles, and hand-made alters will be arranged to welcome all souls and creative spirits.

Guests are asked to come dressed in Day of the Dead fashion or enter our Frida Face-Off by channeling your inner Frida Kahlo…the best Frida impersonator wins an original woodcut print by Miho Morinoue.

Don’t be a Dead Beat come and feast your eyes on artwork by DMAC’s student artists, dine on spicy Mexican fare, and sip on delicious refreshments while listening to regional Mexican music.

Cover at the door: $10.
