APAC auditions for ‘Nuncrackers’ (Oct. 16)

MEDIA RELEASE

The nuns are coming back to APAC!

Four of the nuns from last year’s production of Dan Goggin’s “Nunsense” by Aloha Performing Arts Company are returning for the Christmas sequel, “Nuncrackers.”

And they need some company … specifically, one man and 4 to 6 children. Brother Virgil Manly Trott joins the nuns this time around. The actor portraying him needs to be a young to middle aged baritone and have excellent comic timing. The young boys and girls will be playing members of the Mount St. Helen’s children’s choir.

Auditions will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. Auditions will consist of singing a few bars of a traditional Christmas song, learning a simple movement routine, and telling a joke or funny story.

The song is the auditionee’s choice. No a cappella or karaoke, please. An accompanist will be provided. Those trying out should dress comfortably, and will be auditioned in small groups in order of arrival.

“Nuncrackers” finds the Little Sisters of Hoboken taping a Christmas special for cable TV in their church basement. It is a fun romp through the trials, tribulations, and joys of the Christmas season.

Jerry Tracy is directing, Dale Ross is music director, and Sue Boyum is vocal director.

There will be a meeting of the cast Saturday, Oct. 23, and regular rehearsals will begin Nov. 2. Generally, rehearsals will be Sunday afternoons and Monday through Thursday evenings. Specific time commitment will vary with the different roles.

The show runs Dec. 3-18 at Aloha Theatre.
