HELCO Energy Fair Saturday (Oct 2) in Hilo

October is Energy Awareness month and Hawaii Electric Light Company would like to invite everyone to the HELCO In Our Community Energy Fair on Saturday October 2, 2010, at the Prince Kuhio Plaza from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

This free event showcases a variety of energy-related hands-on activities, games, and literature. There will also be displays on energy efficiency, emergency preparedness, renewable energy, customer services, electricity generation, how to get connected, safety, and power distribution. Other attractions include a model hydroelectric system and exhibits by school robotics programs. Energy Tips and Choices and Handbooks for Emergency Preparedness booklets will also be available.

There will be performances starting at 10:00 a.m. with Lori Lei’s Hula Studio followed by the Longakit Ohana (special appearances by Pomai and Loeka) at 11:00 a.m. At noon the Waiakea Intermediate Ukulele band will take the stage and HELCO’s own Kanoelehua follows at 1 p.m.

Energy passports will be available at the registration table near the center court. Get your passport punched at each of the exhibits and once it is completed turn it in to the registration table for a chance to win a prize from our lucky drawing. The first 100 attendees to turn in completed passports will receive a free tote bag.

Hawaii County Community Policing Department will also be providing free keiki I.D.s throughout the day and there will even be a visit from McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog from 11 a.m.-noon. This free event will have something for the whole family and give everyone the opportunity to find out how to “Use Energy Wisely & Safely”.
