During the week of September 20, 2010, through September 26, 2010, Big Island police arrested 39 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Five were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,151 DUI arrests compared with 1,003 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.8 percent.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have fallen 1.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.39/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.70/g, according to gasoline price website HawaiiGasPrices.com.

Randi Ono shot a 6-over-par 150 (73-77) to tie for medalist honors at the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustang Invitational in Marshall, MN and lead the University of Hawaii at Hilo to a second place finish in the 13-tournament.

One-stroke behind Ono was Dayna Bersamin who followed an opening round 78 with a 73 to finish in third place at 7-over-par 151.

Leilani Ramsey broke into the starting line-up in a big way in leading the University of Hawaii at Hilo to 3-0 victory over Hawaii Pacific University in a Pacific West Conference match in Hilo.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-18, 25-17. The Vulcans are 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the PacWest while the Sea Warriors are 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Scoring was tight for the Vulcans with only a 5-stroke differential among the squad members. Neil Cabico led the Vulcans with a 217 (72-70-75). One stroke behind were Travis Russell (75-73-70) and Blake Snyder (73-73-72) at 218. At 219 was Chris Armanini (74-71-74). Three strokes back was Corey Kozuma at 222 (69-78-75).
