Hilo man sentenced to 10 years in prison

Prosecuting Attorney Jay T. Kimura announced today that on September 29, 2010, Jaime Harry Pacheco, a 36 year-old resident of Hilo, Hawaii, was sentenced to ten years in prison for the offenses of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree and Ownership or Possession of Firearm Prohibited.

On January 6, 2010, members of the Hawal’i Police Department Vice Unit executed a search warrant at Pacheco’s residence in Hilo. During the search, police found eight packets containing a total of 8.01 grams of methamphetamine, and a .22 caliber Magnum pistol. Police also found various drug paraphernalia including a glass pipe, resalable packets, digital scale and a cut straw. Further investigation revealed that Pacheco was convicted in 1995 for the felony offense of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree, thus making his possession of any firearm unlawful.

Pacheco charged via Indictment with Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree, two counts of Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia, Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree, Ownership or Possession of Firearm Prohibited, and Attempted Methamphetamine Trafficking in the First Degree. On August 9, 2010,

Pacheco entered pleas of “Guilty” to Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree and Ownership or Possession of Firearm Prohibited.

On September 29, 2010, Pacheco was sentenced by Judge Greg K. Nakamura to a concurrent ten-year term of imprisonment for Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree and Ownership or Possession of Firearm Prohibited.
