This race is in memory of George Heneghan, long-time Big Island resident, architect, coach, teacher and accomplished athlete and Parker School’s cross-country and track coach from 1992-1998. Charismatic, optimistic and genuinely interested in others, George taught us all to find the best in ourselves, to set high goals, and to strive mightily toward them.

A fine example of positive, encouraging and supportive coaching, George was known at Parker School for his ability to inspire our athletes to stretch beyond their own efforts of 100%. With a warm, friendly smile, he had a gift of making people around him feel good about themselves.

Holding our best selves for us to see and embrace, George helped all of us to become better people. While we will miss his presence in our lives, we are thrilled to hold the 11th Annual George Heneghan Fun Run/Walk in his honor and to remember him year after year.
