Parker School is pleased to announce that three seniors have made it to the semifinal round of the National Merit Scholarship Program. Among the students representing Hawaii, Edward Hon and Mary Kamitaki finished in the top 10, and Elliott Warkus in the top 50.

Started in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. To qualify students must take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This test is the initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants who have met published requirements each year.

The three Parker School students are among 16,000 nationally qualified as semifinalists and are among the highest scoring entrants representing the state of Hawaii. In Hawaii there were 7,011 participants in the competition and 64 advanced to the semifinal round.

In February, 15,000 Semifinalists will advance to Finalist standing. They will be assessed based on ability, skills, and accomplishments. Between March and June approximately 8,400 Finalists will be awarded Merit Scholarships.

Congratulations to Edward Hon, Mary Kamitaki, and Elliott Warkus for this academic recognition. For more information on Parker School, visit www.parkerschool.net.
