Mountain View man sentenced to 10 years in prison

Prosecuting Attorney Jay T. Kimura announced today that on August 31, 2010, Jacob Kaneshiro, a 38 year-old resident of Mountain View, Hawaii, was sentenced to ten years in prison for the offense of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree.

On January 6, 2009, members of the Hawaii Police Department Vice Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of Jacob Kaneshiro in Mountain View. During the search, police found three packets containing a total of 9.2 grams of methamphetamine. Police also found $2,829 in US currency, as well as various drug paraphernalia including a glass pipe, resalable packets, digital scale and a cut straw.

On February 11, 2010 Kaneshiro was charged via Indictment with Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree, four counts of Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia, and three counts of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree. On June 22, 2010, Kaneshiro entered a plea of “Guilty” to Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree.

On November 7, 2007, Kaneshiro had been convicted of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree, and he was on felony probation for that offense when he committed the January 6, 2009 offenses. Kaneshiro had also previously been sentenced to a five year term of imprisonment in 1999 for Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree and Prohibited Acts Related to Drug Paraphernalia. His criminal history also includes convictions for Resisting an Order to Stop a Motor Vehicle, Promoting a Detrimental Drug in the Third Degree (marijuana), Reckless Driving, Contempt of Court and Failure to Appear.

On August 31, 2010, Kaneshiro was sentenced by Judge Glenn S. Hara to a ten year term of imprisonment for the January 6, 2009 offense of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree. Based upon his criminal history, Kaneshiro must serve a minimum of one year, eight months before being eligible for parole.
