Walk through the Solar System Saturday (Aug 7)

MEDIA RELEASE

Dear Friends of Astronomy,

Please join us for North Hawaii’s second annual Solar System Walk, a fun and educational family event that will take place Saturday, August 7, 2010 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Provided with your own Solar System passport, you will journey along Mamalahoa Highway on a path that represents a half-mile scale model of our Solar System beginning with the Sun at Keck Observatory headquarters and extending to the Kuiper Belt at Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope headquarters. Within this cosmic neighborhood you will find scientists and information booths presenting interesting images and factoids about planets, asteroids and dwarf planets.

Presented by Waimea’s two astronomy research centers, the W. M. Keck Observatory and Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, this public event is free and will take place rain or shine. Refreshments will be served.

For more information, please call (808) 881-3827 or visit keckobservatory.org
