DUI stats for the week of July 19-25

During the week of July 19, 2010, through July 25, 2010, Big Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 857 DUI arrests compared with 794 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 756 major accidents so far this year compared with 922 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent.

So far this year, there were 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, an increase of 38.5 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
