Work to begin on Wailoa Flood Channel

The county Department of Public Works will remove an estimated 3,200 cubic yards of accumulated sediment from a 1,000-foot length of the Wailoa concrete flood control channel situated upstream of Kilauea Avenue and downstream of the Kinoole-Mohouli intersection.

Isemoto Contracting Company, Ltd., is scheduled to begin the maintenance project to restore the flood channel capacity before the end of August at an estimated cost of $343,000. The project is expected to take three months to complete and is dependent on weather conditions.

Dredged material will be transported to the Hilo Landfill Quarry to be used by the Highway Maintenance Division for road work.
