Following an intensive site-visit at the end of May 2010, The Joint Commission has again awarded the Gold Seal of Approval to North Hawaii Community Hospital.

President and CEO John White said the hospital is extremely proud of the physicians, nurses and staff who made this possible.

Without attention the highest level of quality and detail, The Joint Commission would not have awarded the facility this accreditation, he said.

NHCH has been accredited by The Joint Commission since 1998 and has consistently performed at exemplary levels.

Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve health care for the public by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value.

The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.

To earn and maintain The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a commission survey team at least every three years.

North Hawaii Community Hospital is a rural 39-bed acute-care hospital located in Waimea. Non‐profit, community owned and locally governed, the hospital opened in May 1996 and cares for residents and visitors of the Big Island.
