DLNR holds public information meetings on proposed conservation district rule amendments

MEDIA RELEASE

HONOLULU – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will hold public information meetings statewide regarding proposed amendments to the rules and regulations of the State Land Use Conservation District, under Hawaii Administrative Rules Chapter 13-5.

The Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands (OCCL) is responsible for overseeing these rules covering approximately 2 million acres of private and public lands that lie within the conservation district, including beach and marine lands out to the seaward extent of the State’s jurisdiction.

Over the years, OCCL has identified many elements within the rules that could be modified to improve its efficiency; contribute positively to OCCL’s core objectives related to natural resource conservation, and that will benefit landowners and agencies alike.

Meetings will be held at 6 p.m. as follows:

Oahu: June 29, 2010
Honolulu

The public informational meetings are a precursor to public hearings that will be held at a later date. The proposed Chapter 13-5 rule amendments may be found online at the OCCL’s website at hawaii.gov/dlnr/occl. Anyone with special needs requiring accommodations or assistance may contact OCCL at least four days prior to the meeting.
