Fire Department personnel located human remains Friday (June 25) believed to be those of 41-year-old Joseph Pacheco Jr., who failed to return from picking opihi on Wednesday (June 23).

The remains were recovered at 8:30 a.m. Friday one mile north of Papai Bay. They have not been positively identified.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Fire department crews found the remains of a missing opihi picker Joseph Pacheco Jr. Friday morning (June 25).

The remains of Pacheco were found at a depth of 25 feet and 20 feet offshore fronting his last known location.

The remains were found by rescue divers on their second dive of the day.

FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT RELEASE

Crews spent another day, Thursday (June 24), searching the ocean and shoreline areas fronting King’s Landing for an opihi picker Joseph Pacheco Jr. reported missing on Tuesday.

Fire/rescue personnel used a helicopter, rescue boat and ground crews to search three miles north and five miles south of where Pacheco was last seen. A total of 10 personnel participated in the search from daybreak to evening.
