Mayor’s Office helps tackle underage drinking

MEDIA RELEASE

The Office of the Mayor is sponsoring a free conference to review and discuss the County of Hawaii Request for Proposals (RFP) for Underage Drinking Prevention.

Funding is available to Hawaii Island organizations to implement “evidence based programs” that target the reduction of alcohol consumption among youth ages 12 to 17.

This initiative is made possible by the Hawaii Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant, a program funded through a cooperative agreement between the state Department of Health’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD) and the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) of the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Award amounts will vary from $20,000 to $175,000, and the proposal deadline is July 9.

Attendance is not mandatory for those who seek to participate in the RFP process. Copies of the RFP are available by calling the County Purchasing Division at 961-8231.
