DMAC registering for Summer Art Experience

MEDIA RELEASE

Summer time fun is just around the corner with the Donkey Mill Art Center’s Summer Art Experience running June 14-July 16. The Summer Art Experience is an art intensive summer program for youth (level K to 12) spanning five weeks at The Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa.

Guest artists include local artists and craftsman as well as artist-in-residence Yarrow Lutz from New York City who brings urban concepts to Hawaii’s natural setting.

Students will explore these dynamics along with global perspectives through an array of art and design traditions. The summer art studies will explore human culture versus plant/animal culture through a diverse mix of mediums including drawing, painting, Hawaiian crafts, ceramics, performance, movement, gardening, installation, and mixed media projects.

The Summer Art Experience culminates with an art exhibition and presentation where students share their accomplishments with their families and community.

The Holualoa Foundation for the Arts and Culture is pleased to offer art education programs for children and youth. The art courses are designed to use art as a tool for discovering one’s self, understanding relationships through collaboration and communication, and solving problems using critical thinking skills. The processes will help students learn to apply creativity to their daily lives and gain self-confidence.

Class details: June 14 – July 16 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost: $600 (member), $655 (non-member) limited class size, discounts for early enrollment, no drop-ins.
