Cops raise funds for Special Olympics

Hawaii County police officers spent a few days on the roof of Safeway in Hilo to raise funds for Special Olympics in Hawaii. Saturday (May 1) was the final day of the fundraiser.

In Kona, police issued a challenge to West Hawaii Today managers and staff: Get in the dunk tank!

Publisher Rick Asbach and editor Reed Flickinger took their turns and both got a little soggy. Between the two newsroom leaders and reporters Chelsea Jensen, Erin Miller, Kim Eaton and Carolyn Lucas, they raised more than $200 in 90 minutes.

The effort raised at least $7,000 to support Special Olympics on the Big Island.
