Updated: Police charge suspect in Waimea Robbery Thursday (April 22)

Big Island police have charged a Waikoloa man in connection with a robbery in Waimea last week.

Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section charged 21-year-old Michael Bonelli at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday (April 27) with second-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and second-degree theft.

A 38-year-old Kamuela man reported that he returned home after his morning walk Thursday morning (April 22) to find a male intruder, who threatened him with physical harm and removed two medical marijuana plants from his house.

Bonelli was also charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and second-degree criminal property damage in an unrelated case.

He is being held in the Kona police cellblock in lieu of $16,000 bail pending his initial court appearance.

Big Island police have arrested a Waikoloa man in connection with a robbery in Waimea last week.

South Kohala patrol officers arrested 21-year-old Michael Bonelli on Sunday (April 25) on suspicion of robbery. Bonelli was also arrested for an unrelated investigation of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

A 38-year-old Kamuela man reported that he returned home after his morning walk Thursday morning (April 22) to find a male intruder, who threatened him with physical harm and removed two medical marijuana plants from his house.

Bonelli is being held in the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue both investigations.

Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section are investigating a robbery in Waimea reported at 7:15 a.m. Thursday (April 22).

A 38-year-old Kamuela man reported that he returned home after his morning walk to find a male intruder, who threatened the victim with physical harm and removed two medical marijuana plants from his house.

The suspect is described as Caucasian between the ages of 18 and 22, about 5-foot-10 with a muscular build. He was wearing blue jeans, a black pullover sweater with some kind of emblem on the front, and a black or blue Vulcans baseball cap.

Police ask that anyone with information about this case call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 392-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
