Entry deadline for statewide cupping competition (April 30)

Second Annual Statewide Cupping Competition – July 16-17, 2010

Sponsored by the Hawaii Coffee Association and state Department of Agriculture

* Entrants will be evaluated by an independent cupping panel of industry professionals
* Coffees will be featured and publicized at the Hawaii Coffee Association’s Annual Conference
* Competition will be part of the annual HCA conference July 15-17, 2010 at the Sheraton Keauhou on the Big Island.
* Coffee entries must be submitted by April 30, 2010
* Learn the cupping process
* Receive a descriptive analysis that can be used in describing, marketing, and promoting your coffee
* Awards for top regional winners and an overall champion

WHEN: July 16 -17, 2010

WHERE: At the Hawaii Coffee Association’s 15th Annual Conference & Trade Show at the Sheraton Keauhou Beach Resort

PURPOSE:
* To promote and better understand the cupping qualities of Hawaiian grown coffees
* To compare and contrast coffees from different growing Regions
* To receive a descriptive analysis from professional cuppers
* To use in describing, promoting, & marketing individual Coffees
* To learn the process of cupping and rating the cup qualities of coffee
* To be recognized with Awards for the best coffees

ORGANIZERS: The Cupping Competition will be organized by the HCA and will be run by Professional Cuppers – Wholesale Coffee Roasters & Brokers from the mainland USA

ENTRIES: The Cupping Competition will be open to all coffees grown 100% in the Hawaiian Islands and Certified by origin by the Hawaii State Dept. of Agriculture

SUMMARY: The Cupping Competition will give growers and consumers a better understanding of the cupping process and how to rate different coffees on various cup qualities. It will also allow exposure to local and mainland markets as to the quality and diversity of Hawaiian grown coffees.
