New chief financial officer for Kona Community Hospital

Kona Community Hospital (KCH) has announced Dean Herzog has been appointed to the role of Chief Financial Officer for the hospital as of Monday, March 29.

Herzog has more than 25 years of professional experience in the healthcare industry. He recently was the Chief Financial Officer/Administrative Director for Integris Health in Oklahoma. Prior to this position, he spent a notable 22 years at QHR (formerly Quorum Health Resources) in Oklahoma; initially as the Chief Financial Officer and then promoted to Regional Associate Vice President.

Dean has managed the finances of non-profit hospitals in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska and has been active with Kiwanis and Easter Seals.

When asked why he went into healthcare finance, he replied, “I know that money is a critical part to the healthcare industry, and that it has become one of the key components in keeping a hospital afloat. I simply enjoy the challenge and the work involved.”

“We are delighted to have someone with as much knowledge as Dean,” said Earl Greenia, Chief Executive Officer of Kona Community Hospital and Kohala Hospital. “His experience is impressive and he will be a fine addition to our leadership team.”

A meet and greet for Herzog is 2-3 p.m. Friday, April 30 at Kona Community Hospital’s cafeteria. Light refreshments will be provided.

Founded in 1914, KCH is a 94-bed full-service acute and long-term care hospital with 24-hour emergency services that supports the west region of the island of Hawaii. It is a member of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, a special agency of the state of Hawaii established in 1996. It is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. KCH is dedicated to providing and enhancing accessible comprehensive healthcare services to the West Hawaii community.
