In celebration of National Library Week, the Kealakekua Public Library will be hosting a program titled Cultures of the World with Greywolf at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10.
C.R. Greywolf is a Native American with more than 10 years of experience in weapons smithery and is Hawaii’s only professional medieval armorer.
This 45-minute educational program will feature authentic handcrafted weapons and antiques, period costumes, practical demonstrations, and audience participation.
Recommended for ages 8 and older.
Also in celebration of National Library Week, the Kailua-Kona Public Library will be hosting a program titled Folk Dances of the Philippines with H. Wayne Mendoza at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17.
Mendoza will provide a demonstration and cultural tour of the Philippines and their various folk dances. Mendoza has choreographed, danced with and taught Filipino folk dance groups throughout Hawaii.
As a child, Mendoza became fascinated with Tinikling, a well-known Filipino bamboo dance, and decided that one day he would learn and perform the dances of his father’s homeland. Mendoza currently teaches a course in Philippine Dance at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
This 45-minute program is recommended for ages 5 and older and is free to the public.
