DUI stats for the week of March 29-April 4

During the week of March 29, 2010, through April 4, 2010, Big Island police arrested 21 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 402 DUI arrests compared with 340 during the same period last year, an increase of 18.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 347 major accidents so far this year compared with 446 during the same period last year, a decrease of 22.2 percent.

So far this year, there were eight traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with five during the same period last year, an increase of 60 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
