Today's Pacific West Conference doubleheader between the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Grand Canyon University has been rained out.

Due to the rain out, 3 p.m. doubleheaders will be played on Monday and Tuesday, March 1 and 2 at Wong Stadium.

Motorists rushed to gas pumps Saturday morning (Feb. 27) in Hilo to fill up and get out of town before roads were closed. Some gas stations had closed early, which meant the few stations left open had lines of vehicles snaked out of driveways onto the streets. People seemed patient, waited their turn and headed for higher ground.

Public libraries, UH-Hilo athletics, UH campuses closed due to tsunami warning

H-Hilo Vulcan athletic events have been cancelled and all UH system campuses have been closed due to the tsunami warning. All Hawaii public libraries are closed, due dates and pick-ups for reserved books will be adjusted due to the closure.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued an expanding  regional tsunami warning and watch for parts of the Pacific  located closer to the earthquake. An evaluation of the Pacific  wide tsunami threat is underway and there is a possibility that  Hawaii could be elevated to a watch or warning status. If a tsunami impacts Hawaii estimated earliest time of arrival is 11:19 a.m. Saturday (Feb 27).
