Kelakekua mauka fire update for Wednesday (Jan 27)

Good afternoon this is Fire Chief Darryl Oliveira with a brush fire update for Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 4:30 p.m.

The fire conditions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area remain stable and limited to smoldering fires well within the fire breaks and perimeter.

Crews are maintaining twenty-four hour operations and monitoring the situation to insure all potential fire hazards are addressed and any changes are communicated to keep the public informed.

Operations continue to be supported by the Hawaii Fire Department and Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate.

Again, the fire conditions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area remain unchanged and stable. The Hawaii Fire Department would like to once again remind the community that although some areas may be experiencing occasional light rain, overall the island continues to experience drier than normal weather conditions and in many areas severe drought conditions increasing the risk for wildfires. Everyones help and assistance is requested and appreciated with helping prevent possible fire.
