Kealakekua forest fire update (Jan. 26)

Good Afternoon this is Fire Chief Darryl Oliveira with a brush fire update for Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m.

The conditions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area remain stable and unchanged. All fire activity is limited to smoldering hot spots well within the fire breaks and the perimeter remains secure.

Operations continue to focus on those hot spots or smoldering fires that are accessible, and as previously mentioned some hot spots are approximately one fourth mile form the perimeter and pose little threat to any potential escape or spot fires.

Again, the fire conditiions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire are stable with little change and all fire activity is limited to smoldering hot spots well within the fire area.

The mop-up operations will continue tonight and into tomorrow.
