Kealakekua forest fire update (Jan. 23)

Good afternoon this is Fire Chief Darryl Oliveira with a brush fire update for Saturday Jan. 23 at 4 p.m.

Personnel and resources from the Hawaii Fire Department and Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate continue to perform mop-up operations on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area.

Personnel have reported that the fire activity has not changed in the last 24 hours and is limited to remote hot spots well within the fire breaks and perimeter. Conditions remain stable and the winds have been light and variable and presenting little risk to possible flare ups and spot fires.

Resources on scene today include 1 tanker, 2 brush trucks, and 2all terrain vehicles. Again, the mop-up operations on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire are continuing and the conditions on the fire scene are stable with little risk to flare ups and spot fires.

Personnel will continue the operations through tonight and tomorrow.
