Police warn of auto repair scam

MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawai’i Police Department is warning the public about an automobile repair scam.

A South Kohala man was approached by an unidentified man in the parking lot of a shopping center. The unidentified man said he had observed the victim’s vehicle on the roadway with a wobbling rear tire and offered to fix the problem for a fee.

The two men proceeded to the victim’s home and then the suspect left with the victim’s vehicle. He returned a short time later, informed the victim that the repairs had been completed and demanded cash payment in the amount of $4,000.

Police are requesting that the public protect themselves and their interests by taking all automotive concerns to a licensed automotive repair technician.
