Arts of Kona sharing the vision

Arts of Kona president Helen Beljean has released the following wrap-up for 2009:

Aloha Friends and Patrons of Arts of Kona,

As president of Arts of Kona, I feel privileged to share with you the exciting and dynamic first 18 months since our conception. As one of Kona’s leading arts organizations, we envision a future where arts of all disciplines are valued and supported as a vital part of our Kona Community.

As 2009 draws to a close, I am pleased to report that Arts of Kona has established three, arts-rich programs that we intend to offer on an annual basis; our February Member Artists’ Showcase & Sale, our July Kona Music Sampler, and our October Young Artists’ Showcase.

Our first Young Artists’ Showcase drew over 235 registrations from Students grades 3-12.

In the weeks following that amazing event, we have been asked by many to provide this opportunity for our young artists twice a year; we would be thrilled to offer another in April 2010, if an additional $2800 is successfully raised to do so.

Through direct programming and the development of artistic collaborations among cultures, generations and ethnicities, Arts of Kona nurtures the vitality of our local arts community and creates opportunities for engagement between the arts and the broader community in Kona.
We are developing partnerships with other arts organizations and look forward to an exciting time in 2010.

Our programs this year were made possible through grants from the County of Hawaii, The Atherton Family Foundation, The Visitors Industry Charity Walk and most importantly, through the generous donations from members of the Kona Community and beyond, who share our mission and vision.

As we continue to collaborate within the arts community to best promote and present the arts, we hope to achieve our ultimate goal of bringing “state-of-the-art” arts facilities to Kona.

We believe that Kona will become a “go to place” to experience excellence in the arts.

In light of the current economic climate, grant funding bodies have steeply decreased their support for the arts for the coming year. Arts of Kona needs your continued support in the form of ideas and input, attendance at events, as well as financial support.

With your help, we will continue to provide a gathering place to share and experience excellence in the arts in Kona!

Mahalo nui loa,

Helen Beljean
