Big Island police are investigating a reported home invasion robbery that took place in Pāhoa early on the morning of September 8.

Puna Patrol officers were dispatched to an Alapai Street home in the Leilani Estates subdivision, where a 26-year-old woman reported that an unknown man entered her home and demanded marijuana. The suspect physically beat the victim and then left the home with undisclosed personal belongings.

Mountain View Public & School Library (Big Island) will close temporarily beginning on Tuesday, December 1 for interior renovation and maintenance. The book drop will also be closed.  An announcement will be made when the Library is scheduled to reopen.

A Puna woman reported receiving a telephone call last week from a man who told her he was representing the Hawaii Tribune-Herald. He said the newspaper was looking for people who wanted to "give back" to the community by making donations. The woman's caller ID indicated that the call was not from the newspaper. After she began to question the caller, he hung up the phone.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for North, West and East facing shores of the Big Island. The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday with surf forecast to be 7-10 feet through tonight. The Mauna Kea access road has re-opened with about a half-inch of snow above the 13,000 foot level.

The Office of Mauna Kea Management will be hosting three island-wide open houses on the Public Access Plan for UH Management Areas on Mauna Kea (Public Access Plan) and the Decommissioning Plan for the Mauna Kea Observatories (Decommissioning Plan).

University of Hawai‘i at Hilo senior forward Justin Smith (Los Angeles, CA/Reseda) has been named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Nov. 30, for games contested Nov. 23-29.

A flash flood warning is in effect for the Big Island due to heavy rain until 2 a.m. The National Weather Service may extend this if flooding persists. A winter weather advisory is also in effect for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea which may see snow up to two inches deep above 8,000 feet as a cold upper level through moves across the Big Island.
