The University of Hawaii at Hilo got off to slow start but finished fast in beating Academy of Art University 5-0 in the Pacific West Conference match on Amauulu Field in Hilo, Hawaii.
The Vulcans improve to 9-8 overall and 8-3 in the PacWest while the Urban Knights are 4-12 overall and 1-10 in the PacWest.
“We lacked some pace at the beginning and we needed to pick it up,” UHH head coach Cam Camarena said. “When we started doing that we started to get behind their backs, then I think the game was over.”
The Vulcans got off 19 shots and 11 shots on goal. With the offense moving, goalie Dane Kaylor made only three saves.
First half goals by Eddie Ayala and Omar Garcia all but put the match away. Logan Montenegro added second-half goals while Ivan Mercado scored one. Alex Shaw, Montenegro, Cameron Castillo, Go Eto and Gabe Kallen-Brown picked up assists.
