The academy’s youngest aspiring dancers will perform to Saint Saens’s  “Carnival Of The Animals,” choreographed by Midori Satoh.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” will serve as background for a mini-ballet, choreographed by WHDA’s artistic director Virginia Holte, which will feature guest performer Hiroki Ichinose from the Maui Academy of Performing Arts as the Phantom.

In addition, the orchestra, under the baton of director Lisa Archuletta, will play “Lord of the Rings,” Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain,” and other familiar pieces.

The West Hawaii Dance Academy is a nonprofit educational arts organization and is sponsored in part by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Hawaii Community Foundation, Vance Wall Foundation, and local businesses and families. WHDA can be contacted at 329-8876 or at www.whdt.org

The Chamber Orchestra of Kona was founded in August 2003 in other to create a musical performance outlet for the West Hawaii community. Its musicians, all volunteers and all Big Island residents, range from advanced students to professionals to retirees who play for the love of music.

The orchestra holds weekly rehearsals, giving local musicians the opportunity and enjoyment of playing together on a regular basis while preparing for concerts.

Affiliated with the Aloha Performing Arts Company, COOK rehearsals are Tuesday evenings in Kailua-Kona. The orchestra invites musicians with an interest in joining, particularly string, clarinet, percussion, and brass players, to call the orchestra for more information at 325-1940.
