4.8 magnitude quake near Loihi Seamount southeast of Pahala

A light earthquake occurred at 11:13:50 PM (HST) on Thursday, October 22, 2009 .
The magnitude 4.8 event occurred 6 km (4 miles) SE of Lo`ihi Seamount.
The hypocentral depth is 32 km (20 miles).

Hawaii County Civil Defense said no damage has been reported from this event.

    We felt the earthquake in downtown Hilo. It set the dogs off howling.

    Yes! Felt it all the way out in Hawi. It was pretty strong, I thought for sure it was going to be centered closer to here! I was surprised that it was at Lo’ihi!
