Imiloa to offer ‘Furlough Friday Science Days’

In a move to provide parents with an academically-rich program during the 17 days that the Hawaii Department of Education has declared ‘Furlough Fridays,’ Imiloa Astronomy Center will provide a full-day of science enrichment activities for children in grades K-8 over the designated no school Furlough Fridays over the next eight months.

Space will be limited, and students will be divided into three groups for K-Grade 2, Grade 3-4, Grade 5-8.  The fees are $30 a day ($25 for Imiloa member families) and will include lunch and snacks, as well as programming designed to get kids excited about science.  The program will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Extended care options are available from 7:30 am. until 5:30 pm for additional $10 per day.

To enroll your child in the program, contact the Imiloa Education Department at 969-9720 and speak to Craig Mitchell or e-mail him at cmitchell@imiloahawaii.org.

Spaces are expected to fill quickly. Information and registration form are available on the Imiloa Web site, go to Education/Student and Family Programs.

“We are happy to offer Furlough Friday Science programming, which has been created in response to critical needs of families during these difficult times,” said Gail Loeffler, Imiloa education coordinator.

Imiloa’s Furlough Friday Science Fun programming will be available Oct. 23, 30; Nov. 6, 20; Dec. 4, 11, 18: Jan. 15, 29; Feb. 5, 12; March 5, 12; April 23, 30; and May 7, 14.
