Police investigating apartment burglaries in Hilo

Big Island police are investigating three burglaries at off-campus apartments that house college students in Hilo.

One or more persons entered two units on Olona Street and one unit on Kapi’olani Street sometime between Sunday night (September 20) and Monday morning (September 21) and removed electronic items from within the units. At the Olona Street building, a car and personal items outside one of the units also were taken.

In all three burglaries, the doors to the apartments had been left unlocked.

Police are advising residents to lock their doors and secure their belongings.

Police ask that anyone with information about these thefts and burglaries call Officer Donovan Kohara at 961-2213 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
