Ka‘u man charged with attempted murder for double stabbing in Kona

Big Island police have charged a man with attempted murder and other offenses in connection with a double stabbing Saturday in Kona.

At 11 a.m. Sunday (September 20), detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section charged 41-year-old Sean Patrick Mitchell of Ocean View with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the second degree and criminal property damage in the third degree following the reported stabbing at a home in Captain Cook.

Mitchell’s bail was set at $106,000. He remains in the Kona Police Cellblock pending arraignment.

A Ka’u man has been arrested in connection with a double stabbing in South Kona.

At 2:00 a.m. Saturday (September 19), Kona patrol officers responded to the report of a stabbing at a home in Captain Cook.

Upon arrival, officers found that a 34-year-old Captain Cook man had been stabbed multiple times about the face and body and his 30-year-old girlfriend had been stabbed in the leg. Both victims were taken to Kona Community Hospital, where they were treated and released.

The suspect, 41-year-old Sean Patrick Mitchell of Ocean View, was arrested at the scene without incident. He is being held pending charges at the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
