UH-Hilo women’s soccer squad takes Chaminade 3-0 on Oahu

MEDIA RELEASE

The University of Hawaii at Hilo got the win needed with a 3-0 victory over Chaminade University in a non-conference match played at the Central Oahu Regional Park yet head coach Cam Camarena remains frustrated.

The Vulcans are 1-3-1 while the Silverswords are 0-2.

“I thought the first half was the worst we’ve played all year,” Camarena said. “We were very lackadaisical as if we didn’t come prepared.

“They finally got on each others case in the second half and scored three nice goals.”
Gina Tumasone, Alysia Salvador and Chelsea Gomez scored for the Vulcans while Moani-Lehua Hagiwara and Paige Winchester picked up assists.

“Some of the bad habits came back,” Camarena said. “When the competition is weak they only give 50-percent of what they are capable of and that always creates a problem. We’ve got to break them of that habit.”
