Two vehicle head-on collision leaves three dead, two injured in Waimea

Fire/rescue crews responded to an 11:50 p.m. alarm Saturday (Sept 5) for a two vehicle head-on collision on Mamalahoa Highway near the Mana Road intersection in Waimea.

Upon arrival crews found one of the vehicles had been on fire which was put out with fire extinguishers. One critical victim was on the highway. Two adults in the other vehicle were killed in the collision and were pinned in the front with two children in the back seat, one without vital signs.

Fire/rescue crews used the jaws-of-life and cutters to remove the victims from the vehicle. Three patients were transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital.

Mamalaoha Highway was closed to traffic with a detour through Mana Road and Kamamalu Street. The highway  was re-opened at 4:15 a.m.
