Worldwide Moment: Take a picture for peace

MEDIA RELEASE

Worldwide Moment (www.worldwidemoment.org), an organization that works to foster peace and international cooperation through photography, will hold its annual photo shoot on Sept. 8. Over 1,000 photographers from 75 countries will celebrate international peace and artistic collaboration by simultaneously taking a picture.

Worldwide Moment encourages citizens of every nation to participate by taking a photograph on Sept. 9, 2009 at 9:09 a.m. in the +09GMT time zone, or 09.09.09+09GMT@09:09. In Hawaii, the moment will occur at 2:09 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The event, held yearly since 2007, is the creation of the photographer and filmmaker Brett Brownell.

“Worldwide Moment allows people around the world to represent their country as an artist and an activist,” Brownell said. “Whether young or old, amateur or professional, film or digital, Polaroid or camera phone, this is for everyone.”

Photographers can pledge to participate at WorldwideMoment.com. After the Moment occurs, photos and their stories will be submitted to the Web site. The collection will be available online, in gallery showings and as a book to benefit international charities.

Worldwide Moment is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. It was recently featured on Yoko Ono’s ImaginePeace.com
