DUI stats for week of June 23-29

During the week of June 23, 2009, through June 29, 2009, Big Island police arrested 30 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 694 DUI arrests compared with 686 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 786 major accidents so far this year compared with 899 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.6 percent.

So far this year, there were 12 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.7 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
