Fish survey volunteer opportunity in Puako

Chad Wiggins, of The Nature Conservancy, wrote:

Aloha Puako Marine Speaker Attendees,

I’d like to announce an opportunity for anyone interested in lending a hand for our pakini (recreational fishing) survey to learn more about the what and why of this very important initiative.

We’ve organized a training event to bring more volunteers aboard where we’ll be presenting some preliminary results from the first quarter of  the survey, practicing our fish identification, and explaining how to conduct pakini surveys to obtain useful information. By the end of the training, you too will be an official pakini survey volunteer.

The training will be held Saturday, June 27 at the Hokuloa Church in Puako from 9 a.m to noon (3 hours).

If you have any questions about this volunteer opportunity, please e-mail our volunteer coordinator, Jonatha Giddens (jonatha@hawaii.edu).
