Mayor to get Bike to Work Week rolling

Mayor Billy Kenoi will kick start Bike to Work Week on Monday, May 11 with a ride starting at 1 p.m. from Hilo Bike Hub at the corner of Maka`ala and East Kawili Street to Aupuni Center on Pauahi Street.

Bike to Work Week is a statewide celebration of bicycling as a clean, green transportation alternative, a healthy physical activity and an economical means of mobility for many Hawaii residents.

The Kick Off celebration will begin at 12 noon at Hilo Bike Hub with music, food and bicycling safety information, maps and more. The public is invited.

PATH Peoples Advocacy for Trails Hawaii is a 23-year old non-profit pedestrian and bicycling advocacy organization and organizer of the Bike to Work Week Celebration on the Big Island.

Mayor Kenoi and PATH executive director Laura Dierenfield will be available for interviews after arriving at Aupuni Center, anticipated to be after 1:15 p.m.

Bike to Work Week in activities will be happening all week on Maui, Kauai, O’ahu and the Big Island.  To see all of the activities or to register for the event, visit www.hawaiipedalpower.com.
