Comic Book Day at the library

Where can you find Archie Andrews, Bart Simpson, Lightning McQueen, and

Wolverine in one place? Would you believe at your local public library?

dcheroesThe eighth annual Free Comic Book Day is coming Saturday, May 2 to eleven public libraries on Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island. Library patrons can receive a free special comic book just by showing their Hawaii State Public Library System card!

Free Comic Book Day is celebrated all over the world, and has given out millions of comic books over the past seven years. Participating libraries will offer several different titles, while supplies last, such as “Wolverine: Origins,” “Star Wars: the Clone Wars,” “Cars” (movie tie-in), “Owly and Friends!” and more.

Star Wars Storm Troopers from the 501st Legion, Pacific Outpost will make special appearances at the following public libraries, and assist in handing out comic books: Aiea and Aina Haina from 10 a.m. to noon, and Kapolei and Liliha from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to bring a camera to take photos with the “soldiers.”

Participating public libraries include: Oahu – Aiea (483-7333), Aina Haina (377-2456), Hawaii Kai (397-5833), Kalihi-Palama (832-3466), Kapolei (693-7050), Liliha (587-7577), McCully-Moiliili (973-1099), and Mililani (627-7470); Big Island – Hilo (933-8888) and Kailua-Kona (327-4327); and Maui – Lahaina (662-3950).

The host libraries’ Friends of the Library Chapters are sponsoring this program, which is made possible by local retailers Jelly’s the Original and Collector Maniacs.
