Big Island residents have two opportunities to check out the stylings of the U.S. Ar Force Band of the Pacific next week.

 

*  2:30-4 p.m., Saturday, April 4, Prince Kuhio Plaza, Hilo

*  7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 7 at Aloha Theatre, Kainaliu

The primary performing group for the Air Force Band of the Pacific – Hawaii is the popular music ensemble, Hana Hou. 

The band also spotlights its jazz combos and individual musicians, incorporating a variety of sounds for concert and protocol events. Vocalists and bugler add a touch of class to military ceremonies throughout the islands.   

The U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific – Hawaii is led by Chief Master Sgt. Sharon K. Johnson. 

A native of Sidney, Iowa, she joined the Air Force in 1980 as a vocalist with the Heartland of America Band at Offutt AFB, Neb. Her career included assignments at Clark AB, Republic of the Philippines, Hickam AFB, Hawaii and Scott AFB, Ill.  

In June 2006, Johnson became the fourth director for the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific – Hawaii setting new standards in musical excellence for the Hawaii military and civilian communities.
