Despite the rain, the softball game between the visiting Kohala Cowgirls and the Hilo Vikings was played. Neither team was about to let the Hilo rain put a halt to their match up. Due to the drizzle and a wet ball, the game was filled with many walks and several throwing errors. A halt was called in the third inning when the playing field became too wet as the drizzle changed to a typical Hilo shower. After a 15 or 20 minute wait and some hard work by the Hilo High coaching staff, with the assistance of several large sponges and a number of buckets, the infield was dried up enough to allow play to be resumed. Hilo continued to score on the visitors until the game was stopped at an 11-1 TKO ruling. Kadi Pulgados was the Vikings’ winning pitcher while Kohala’s Brooke Kise took the loss. Robyn Santiago and Kerr Reis both had a pair of hits for the host team while the Cowgirls’ lone run came on a walk.
