High surf advisory for east facing shores

…HIGH SURF ALONG EAST FACING SHORES…

.OVERVIEW….STRONG AND PERSISTENT HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED WELL NORTHEAST OF THE STATE HAS PRODUCED A BROAD FETCH OF TRADE WINDS ACROSS THE ISLANDS. THIS FETCH EXTENDS WELL EAST OF THE AREA AND IS CREATING LARGE CHOPPY SURF ALONG EXPOSED SHORES. SURF HEIGHTS WILL HOLD AT CURRENT LEVELS THROUGH EARLY THURSDAY THEN INCREASE AS LONGER PERIOD SWELL ARRIVES.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HONOLULU HAS ISSUED A HIGH SURF ADVISORY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST FRIDAY.

SURF ALONG EAST FACING SHORES WILL BE 5 TO 8 FT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A HIGH SURF ADVISORY MEANS THAT HIGH SURF WILL AFFECT BEACHES IN THE ADVISORY AREA…PRODUCING RIP CURRENTS AND LOCALIZED BEACH EROSION.
