UPDATE March 23, 2009 3:30 p.m.

Makuu Drive has re-opened though crews are still making repairs to utility lines. As of 3:30 p.m. Traffic is open on the makai bound lane as a repair truck occupies the mauka bound lane. Flagmen are letting traffic through in both directions.

Crews on the scene said heavy machinery clearing a lot on Makuu Drive felled the large Albizia tree across the roadway between 15th and 16th Avenues in Hawaiian Paradise Park Monday at about 10:45 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The tree landed on utility lines and across the roadway which was closed to traffic with police and work crews are directing traffic around the block. HELCO crews are on the scene.

Police closed the 15th Ave - 16th Ave block of Makuu Drive to traffic due to to a large tree across the roadway.
