Crews battle 600 acre forest fire in Ka‘u Monday and Tuesday

Fire/Rescue crews responded to a vehicle fire in the eucalyptus forest in Ka‘u Monday at Kaalaiki Road and Meyers Road. The fire spread in the forest and guinea grass in the area. Bulldozers were called in to cut fire breaks to prevent the fire spread and crews remained on scene Monday night to watch over the fire.

On Tuesday more crews were called in making a total of five engines, two tankers, one medic, Chopper One, three bulldozers working the 600 acre fire scene. Crews remained at the fire Tuesday night for to watch for flare-ups.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the police.
