Monday, February 2, 2009: The girls’ basketball teams for Waiakea and Keaau conspired to imitate Sunday’s Super Bowl as their game was decided in the last few seconds. Waiakea came out strong in the first quarter, outscoring Keaau 13 to 8. The teams were almost even in the second quarter with Waiakea adding 11 points and Keaau 9 to their totals. The third quarter was where the momentum shifted. Keaau outscored Waiakea 15 to 7 to take the lead 32-31. The fourth quarter saw almost identical point totals, to tie the game up with 40 apiece at the end of regulation. The game was again tied at 45 when Keaau’s Rayleen Naki stole the ball but her attempted lay-up went out of bounds. Following a double timeout by Waiakea, Alyssa Ferreira sank a 3-pointer to give the Warriors the win.

Keaau had trio of high scorers with Tiare Anguay, Jacy Pagala, and Rayleen Naki each putting in 9 points. Waiakea was lead by Kanisha Bello who racked up 15 points while Amanda Hubbell contributed 11.
Both Keaau and Waiakea played intensely and gave the mesmerized fans a thrilling performance.
