During the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2, Big Island police report they arrested 25 motorists for drunken driving. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 99 DUI arrests compared with 116 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 127 major accidents so far this year compared with 188 during the same period last year, a decrease of 32.4 percent.
So far this year, there were two traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with four during the same period last year, a decrease of 50 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
